Role Overview

We are recruiting professional Technical Rescuers to join our specialist Medevac Africa Rescue Team on a part-time / adhoc basis.

Technical Rescuers provide specialist rescue capability during maritime, aviation and remote rescue operations, working alongside medical rescuers, pilots and rescue coordinators to safely access, recover and evacuate casualties from challenging operational environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct technical rescue operations in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Participate in maritime, offshore, aviation and remote rescue missions.
  • Perform high angle, rope and water rescue operations.
  • Assist with casualty packaging, extraction and evacuation.
  • Operate safely around helicopters, rescue vessels and specialist rescue equipment.
  • Maintain operational readiness of rescue equipment.
  • Complete operational documentation and incident reports.
  • Participate in operational debriefings and training exercises.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Hold recognised qualifications in one or more of the following:
    • High Angle Rescue
    • Rope Rescue
    • Swift Water Rescue
    • Rescue Swimmer
  • Be medically fit for operational duties.
  • Be a confident and competent swimmer.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Hold a valid South African driver’s licence.
  • Possess basic computer literacy (Microsoft 365 advantageous).
  • Have reliable personal transport and be able to report to either our Pinelands or Cape Town International Airport operational bases within approximately 45 minutes of activation.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Maritime Rescue Operations
  • Search and Rescue (SAR)
  • Helicopter Operations
  • Offshore Rescue
  • Wilderness Rescue
  • Incident Management
  • Technical Rescue Instruction
  • Previous emergency services experience

Operational Environment

Technical Rescuers may be deployed across a range of operational environments, including:

  • Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR)
  • Offshore Rescue Operations
  • Helicopter Rescue Operations
  • Remote and Wilderness Rescue
  • Industrial and Remote Site Emergency Response
  • Aviation and Marine Rescue Operations

Work Arrangement

  • Part-time / adhoc deployments based on operational requirements.
  • Participation in an operational standby roster.
  • Must be available to deploy on multi-day missions when required.
  • Must be willing to work both day and night operations.
  • Mandatory attendance at training every second week, incorporating both physical fitness and practical rescue exercises.
  • Successful applicants will be required to complete ongoing operational competency assessments.
