Global Medical Safety and Risk Solutions (GMSRS), operating through its Medevac Africa division, successfully conducted an offshore medical evacuation in the early hours of 4 December 2025, following an urgent activation received the previous evening.

The operation involved the evacuation of a ill crew member from a vehicle carrier vessel operating off the coast of Cape Town, and was carried out in collaboration with Offshore Maritime Services and relevant maritime authorities.

GMSRS mobilised a specialised medical and rescue team, including Advanced Life Support paramedics, maritime rescue personnel, high-angle technical rescue specialists, and rescue swimmers, to facilitate the safe transfer of the patient from the vessel to shore. The operation was coordinated by GMSRS’s Topside Medical Support team in conjunction with the vessel’s agents, the launch provider, the receiving medical facility, the Department of Health, and the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre.

The patient was transferred ashore via a launch vessel and subsequently transported by road ambulance to a local medical facility, with continuous advanced medical care provided throughout the transfer.

This operation reflects GMSRS’s ongoing capability to support offshore and maritime sectors with rapid-response medical evacuation services along the South African coastline.
