Global Medical Safety and Risk Solutions (GMSRS), under our Medevac Africa division, successfully conducted a complex offshore medical evacuation (medevac) on 11 January 2025 from a container vessel located off Cape Town. This operation was carried out in collaboration with our launch partner Offshore Maritime Services (OMS) and technical high-angle rope partner Rope Access Inspection Limited (RAI).
Following an urgent request received earlier last month on 11 January 2025, GMSRS promptly mobilized a multidisciplinary team consisting of advanced life support paramedics, a maritime rescue technician, and high-angle technical rope specialists to ensure the safe transfer of a critically ill crew member requiring urgent medical attention.
The operation was overseen by GMSRS’s dedicated Topside Medical Support team, which coordinated the entire mission with all stakeholders involved, including the vessel’s agents, launch provider, and receiving medical facility.
The patient was safely transferred from the vessel to shore via a launch vessel. Upon arrival at the quay side, they were transported to a local medical facility by road ambulance with our advanced life support (ALS) medic onboard, ensuring continuous care during the transfer.
We commend the professionalism and seamless collaboration between all partners involved, ensuring the highest standards of safety and patient care during this challenging maritime extraction.
